"As an artist I am strongly influenced by those art modalities that have moved me: impressionism, post-impressionism, expressionism, fauvism, the art of the nabis, Japanese woodcuts and you can add in constructivism and even classicism. I guess I'm a bit of an artistic anachronism. (lots of 'isms')..and yet I am also a creature of today's world, so I can't help but reflect on both the past and present in my work.  

Yet the objective for me is not to emulate past art or contemporary, but to imbue my work with pathos, whether my subject be a street dweller or a head of cabbage: that is what motivates me."
